Meet the characters!
Coraline JonesThe Other Mother or Beldam is the main antagonist of the film. The Other Mother has no solid identity, however it is known that she is quite old. She lures Coraline into the parallel world vie jumping mice and spies on her through a little doll similar looking to Coraline. The Beldam attempts to trap her there forever and sew buttons into her eyes. She transforms into a insect-like creature towards the end of the film Her characteristics include manipulativeness, inability to love and cunning thinking.

Coraline Jones, the film's protagonist, is an only child who has just moved to a new apartment While Coraline's exact age is never revealed, she is probably around 10 or 11. Coraline's main attributes are her curiosity, her willingness to explore dangerous situation and, and her bravery and loyalty towards her parents, even if they do not pay as much attention to her as she'd like. She becomes the first child to see through and defeat the other mother, along with the help of her friends. She is extremely loyal and clever - despite appearing stubborn.

The CatWybie plays a large role in the film adaptation such as: helping Coraline, (in the form of Other Wybie) in the other world. He is also the first who worms Coraline about the Pink Palace.. Wybie is hesitant to believe Coraline about the Other World. He's is constantly nervous, (evident in the way he is always playing with his hands) however, he is an adventurer somewhat like Coraline. From his actions towards the Cat, he is rather compassionate, presumably only to animals or to those he takes a liking too.

The Cat is one of the major supporting characters of the film. He appears and disappears at will and has the ability to speak in the Other World.. He seems to understand the nature of the Parallel World in full detail, including it's history and the terrible truth behind the facade. It is implied that the other mother and the cat are arch-enemies in some way. The Cat seems to be sarcastic and snobbish, though becomes friends with Coraline towards the end of the film. He's extremely intelligent and wise and helps Coraline defeat the Beldam.

Miss Spink and Forcible |
They live together (with their dogs), and they both enjoy telling fortunes. More importantly, they're both former actresses who love to talk about their days in the theatre. Even still, the two actresses actually end up helping Coraline quite a bit. Without their fortune-telling, Coraline wouldn't have known that danger was lurking. And what's more, they give her that handy stone with a hole in it for protection. This stone turns out to be a powerful tool which helps Coraline escape from the other world. In the end, despite their flakiness, Coraline feels a strong bond with these two nutty ladies.

Mr. Bobinsky lives in the top flat of the Pink Palace Apartments and once trained as a gymnast, (explaining the flexibility he shows in the film) and lives on a steady diet of beets, which he once offered to Coraline with the claim that it'll make her strong. Mel Jones believes him to be drunk, and Coraline instead believes him crazy when he mentions his mouse circus, but later calls him eccentric instead. Mr Bobinsky is a blue-skinned, extremely tall, Russian man; while not explained in the film, his blue skin is due to his constant time outside in the damp and cold weather.

The Other Father |
Other Father, created by Beldam, was used to try to help trick Coraline Jones into staying in the Other World. But it is revealed that he is actually on Coraline's side. Other Father is the Other Mother's "husband". He is the identical to Charlie Jones, Coraline's real father, except for the fact that he has button eyes, plays piano, is always cheerful (nearly) and spends time with Coraline. According to Coraline, he is more fun and attentive to her needs than her real father. It is hinted throughout the film that he is terrified of the Other Mother, doing as she says and obeying her every command. Later on in the film, the Other Father turns into a pumpkin-like human. The other father helps Coraline throughout the movie, going against the Beldams commands.

Other Wybie is the alternate version of Wybie Lovat. opposed to Wybie's flustered and analytical behavior, Other Wybie is much more observant and aware of those around him. He, like the Other Father, is shown to possess a limited amount of free-will, feeling genuine guilt when helping the Other Mother's plans and helping her escape when Coraline became aware of her evil intentions. He has been incapable of speaking due to the Other Mother, as she knew that Coraline would find Other Wybie much less of an annoyance to her. It's unknown whether or not the Other Wybie's mouth was made shut or ifThe Other Mother hurt him enough to keep him quiet, the Other Mother simply saying that she "Fixed him".

Mel Jones is the mother of Coraline and the wife of Charlie Jones. She is constantly seen very busy and have little time for her daughter as per her job as a gardening catalogue editor. very busy with her work as a gardening catalogue editor, Mel loves Coraline very much despite the lack of time and attention she gives her daughter
Charlie Jones is the father of Coraline and the husband of Mel Jones. Being a busy father and husband, Charlie has little time and attention to spare for his daughter as he spent most of his time typing articles for a gardening catalogue in his computer. However, although busy with work, Charlie seems to wish that he could play with his daughter more often but is too busy and wrapped up with the demands of his job. |
The Other Mr. Bobinsky is a copy of the real Mr. bobinsky. The Other Mr. Bobinsky is the ringmaster of a circus of rats disguised as jumping mice, and he is almost identical to his Real World counterpart, except with less of a gut, buttons for eyes, and his mustache is much neater. He turns evil and tries to trap Coraline in the other world - using his jumping mice as spies.
